dang. well all my computers are down back at my apartment, so my production will be very little. i just started folding on my mbp with an a3 unit, so we'll see how it goes

Sorry to hear that, when will you be able to get back to your apartment to get everything started again?

My points are down too for some reason, not sure what the problem is as everything is running ok.

Ah, the fine sound of someone clutching at straws...

You'd do better to revise your opinion with a little more research and analysis, rather than keep digging yourself into ever more ridiculous holes in an argument you don't even realise you have lost.

Another Apple apologist surfaces! Instead of holding Apple responsible for providing a defect-free product, you make excuses for them and ridicule those for whom such major issues as light bleed and other quality control issues are unacceptable in a relatively costly piece of consumer electronics.

You are all quite entertaining in your defense of Apple...especially Matassas or whatever his name his trying to pass the light bleed issue as minor and isolated, despite the fact that it is being reported all over the Internet. The only real trolls here are you and your fellow Apple apologists.

When Iphone 5 comes out, .

    Heh, and even then...

As I said, competitors planted news about iPhone 3 flaws, and then iPhone 4 flaws, and I'm sure they will do the same about iPhone 5 flaws. The flaws will exist, of course, but it will be inflated to the point where it's implied you are crazy if you buy an iPhone 5. And all of the iPhone 5 competitors who have similar flaws will get a pass.

Until the iPhone 6 comes out and the cycle repeats. Now, if we had reporters who did more than stenography, we might get rationality instead of emotionalism when this stuff gets pushed by PR firms.

How do you record channel 105 from 5:30PM to 6:30PM on Friday? Damn...that would take forever with 4 buttons.

I assume you've not used a TiVo then? The TiVo interface allows you to set manual channel and time recordings with just up,down, left, right and select, which is exactly what the Apple Remote has. It works just fine.

But on the TiVo, you rarely need to make a recording like that - you just select the program in the guide.

Free upgrade to Lion when it releases?

Doubt it. Not unless you are talking about the 14 day or announcement window. Probably along the lines of all machines purchased after WWDC Lion announcement and prior to release have option to get upgrade disc for $9.99 shipping. Unless at WWDC they say that Lion will be out in October.

That's not clever at all. You'd still be stuck with the Intel GPU on the internal screen.

So what? Play your game on the external screen then. This will allow third displays on Macs that don't have slots. Imagine having three displays on your MacBook Pro. Or if you are a video editor, two displays and an SD or HDMI output.

Nice idea, lets give communism another shot!

A good idea, just poorly executed.
Actually makes more sense than the system we have now.

But then again, look how aggressively priced the Mac Pros are. My out-'n-left-field wishful thinking says:

    17" iMac - $999
    20" iMac - $1,499
    23" iMac - $1,999

BTW, I adjusted my post to:

    17" iMac - $1,199 - 2GHz, X1650 Pro 128 MB
    20" iMac - $1,599 - 2.16 GHz, X1650 Pro 256 MB
    23" iMac - $2,099 - 2.33 GHz, X1650 Pro 256 MB

Of course, only some of the folks at Apple know truly what the specs and prices are.

If iMacs don't get Conroe inside that is going to be SO WEAK.

2.33GHz is the top of Merom folks. How can that be the best Apple can offer non Mac Pro customers?

If you want something else the alternative is single-core 2.1 GHz G5 iMacs. I would prefer a cooler, near silent iMac because the speeds of even Core Duos are pretty damn good.

I think all those that want a 23" iMac that is chinless better hope for a Merom. I think conroe would be to hot, or does conroe run pretty cool?

Merom or Conroe wouldn't make a difference to the chin. An external power supply or a much thinner power supply is needed. As for Conroe running hot... no hotter than iMac G5s.

How are the Skullcandy Slider cases?
My friend's brother has one for his 3rd Gen and it looks pretty sturdy. But when I tried to take it off I couldn't get the top piece off, only the top piece. I didn't try that hard though.

    ooooh. the rare red-crested triple-post!

    That's an infraction-and-a-half!

In my early, more naive days here at MR I got dinged for just putting two in a row.

Personally, I thought it was a little draconian.

But I learned my lesson. :D

WOW!!! iCal looks *********g UGLY... I hope they add an option to use a standard gray toolbar area... That seems so unlike apple to do something like that.

Heh.. What if they give everything that look :). I think I would switch to windows if they did that..

Which would be fine...if there were a model in the middle. It's like a car company selling a huge SUV and a tiny two door car, with nothing in between.

Oh believe me, I agree with you 100% percent! I would LOVE to see "Mac pro Mini" from Apple.

So you're saying we should go back to Mac OS Classic cooperative multi-tasking ?

    Hello ?

The 80s called, they want their computing paradigms back. Cooperative multi-tasking makes sense on ressource limited architectures. Even the iPhone/iPad like devices are far from "ressource limited". We had pre-emptive multi-tasking on much less capable devices (think 386s with 8 MB of RAM).

LOL! Yeah... and I remember crashing faster than you click your mouse on those systems. Windows 3.0 and 3.1 were a mess. But of course... most things were back then. how far we've come.

Maybe it's not as cool as having ZERO ports but Apple did patent the idea of collapsible ports:

    http://images.macrumors.com/article/2007/08/16/connecting_350.gif

    http://www.macrumors.com/2007/08/16/ultraportable-connecting-system/

Which would be absolutely awesome in a small form factor machine.

Are the little glowing boxes hard drives? If so, how much space do you have sitting there?

Yep all of them are hard drives, i have 2TB in each one and then a RAID-0 with 2x2TB. I keep most for back ups of Photos, Music and Movies and OS clones (i'm fairly meticulous with back ups and having them on more than just one drive..but most duplicated clones are taken offline and stored after back up).
One is used as my external iTunes library as there isnt enough space on the SSD and the others are free space, diagnostic drives, work drives used to do audio/video or photo storage/editing

And to make things worse, there is no "Jobs" waiting on the wings to salvage Microsoft from itself, and that will be the sole reason why they won't last long (would've Apple had, if not for Steve and NeXT?)...

As for buying clues, sure! Maybe they'll hire someone from outside. But naaah, they're too proud to change their ways, I guess...

I agree with almost everything you wrote (you're a pretty smart guy!) but offer two comments:

1 - We don't know there isn't a Jobs waiting in the wings. We also don't know there isn't a Jobs in the #2 spot at some Fortune 50 company who could be in a MS executive suite in 3 years.

2 - MS being "too proud" is exactly the kind of thing I mean when I write about not being able to predict the post-Bill future. He is certainly too proud but who knows about Bill 2.0?

You make the point about the rank-and-file being mostly very talented and I agree. If MS gets executives who stay out of the way who knows what Zune 3.0 will be like?
