Putting 4 periods after a paragraph doesn't make up for no periods in the paragraph itself.

I think that Apple doesn't have resources for decent quality review process.

App store works in a such way, that all underdog app developers want to update their apps as often as possible. A new update brings an app to the first page in its category, sorted by date (for a day or 2)

Apple does not have guts or desire to charge for reviews, and all this mess goes on. They "review" apps very formally, and I suspect that this is outsourced to India.

If Apple wants to make this right, they should include 10 or 20 reviews into the annual $100 developer fee, and charge $20-$50 for each additional review. That would greatly reduce the number of updates, and increase the quality of reviews.

I myself have several apps in the appstore, and my apps and updates were also rejected many times for formal reasons, which were totally stupid in the context of my apps.

And what's also funny, Apple suddenly rejected my critical update with a bug fix because of a piece of graphic that already was in my app for 6 months :-)

How does streaming music to my iPhone help me, when O2 cap my Internet usage, and then charge when you use more.

Perhaps if they let you cache songs.

I think we all are getting caught up in the "core" crazy a little too much. I understand at a professional level the more cores the better. But Apple has delivered this target market its machine, the Mac Pro. I think the Mac Pro will see even more options in its configurations as time goes on, but I don't see them putting the next biggest and best chip in every product. After all, 90% of home computer users are using thier computers for basic functions and not heavy video or audio work, which means they don't need 4 cores. Apple is focusing on the digital lifestyle and this means they want to sell a customer hardware that will take care of this emerging market, like live streaming video rentals to their large screened LCD TV. I think the Mac Pro is the ever-expanding machine but look for huge price differences in its configs. An $800 difference in 2.66 to 3.0 GHz Xeon? All we do know is that Apple wants to rule the digital livingroom and probably is not concerned with bragging rights. But the obvious is true, there are some big steps ahead in processing power.

Neither will be redesigned next year. Look at the length of time Apple stuck with the previous design. There are still a few years left to this "look."

They stuck with the previous design for 3-4 years. It has now been 3 years with the current look.

I'd gladly wait overnight for a solid 1080p movie that played in quicktime. Don't need the DVD features (or frickin' ads). Just give me the movie.

I would be exstatic to get a 720p movie, and like you, I would certainly have no problem waiting the time it would take to download it. I just want HD downloadable content from iTMS, which is why the iTV has me so excited. I may hold off on getting that HD-DVD player until I learn more about it.

Those having glossy screens sure will need an automated screen wiper to go with their new laptops. They've got no touch screens and we take care to not touch them, but eventually the screens get dusted and/or fingerprinted all over.

Look at this iPad. Isn't it disgusting?

    Image (http://www.tema.ru/jjj/apple-2.jpg)

Sure it's not how it looks in ads. It's a real thing in real use.

I also expect a screen wiper in iPad 3, by the way. Screw the liquid metal and gimme the ol' good wiper, please. Or make it matte/Pixel Qi, for heaven's sake.

Meh. Both my MacBook Pro's and Samsung touchscreen cellphone's screens look like that when they're turned off and being viewed in the light from that angle. But you don't notice it when the device is turned on and you are looking directly at it :)

Yeah... yeah... Movies for the American audience...

    ...I don't even get TV shows... :(

Precisely... at least a gesture to the international audience would be good.

UK stations offer TV online... but all through WMP that Macs can't use.

How big would a high quality feature length movie be?

And no, I havn't read all 6 pages of the posts, so sorry if it's been discussed.
    Worth revisiting.

    The raw uncompressed bitrate for 720p = 1280*720*24bpp*30fps/(1024*1024) = 633 Mbps for 1080i it's ~711 Mbps 320x240 it's more like 53 Mbps.

720p compressed in H.264 with 5.1 sound seems to work out to about 1100 MB for your typical 45 minute drama show (i.e. compressed down to ~3 Mbps). This compares to 200 MB for the same show from iTMS in 320x240 H.264 (700 kbps). Not bad when you consider that 720p has 12X as many pixels (1280/320=4, 720/240=3)

Basically your typical movie would be about 2GB.

TV shows are US only, but I doubt Movies will be US only. That would be like music being US only? TV shows are a different animal.

They sure are a different animal; Hollywood thrives on sales outside of the US. Even though all you often hear about is domestic US take on a movie, often the worldwide sales match and far surpass that number. So even though television studios may worry (and rightfully so) about their content translating to different cultures, Hollywood has been making movies universal for years for just that reason.

Take a PSP. Chop the two ends off that hold the game controls. You have about a 3"x4"x.75 16:9 unit, all screen. User replaceable battery, openable back. quad GSM. Bluetooth. Touch screen, pressure sensitive to sense clicks. Touch brings up on-screen controls, translucent. Can bring up traditional number buttons, or a contacts list with a click wheel scroller. Speaker makes subtle click sounds like Mighty Mouse. Internet browser. EMail. The usual phone PDA stuff. *nix OS.

Apple starts a virtual carrier in its huge new data center. Does perfect syncing, has all you can eat Internet at 3G speeds.

It's also an iPod. Hard disk. Virtual click wheel. Stereo Bluetooth. iPod dock port. Headphone jack. Hold switch. No WiFi. Bluetooth will be extended soon to have more range and speed.

It's also a video iPod. Wide screen. Virtual click wheel. Plays movies.

It's also an IR remote for CE stuff and Macs. Interface ala Harmony Remote. IR port.

It's also an Apple Remote Desktop. Links to any Mac, puts 2nd Mac screen on the device. Controls your Mac through touch guestures, Apple Speech Recognition, Apple Text to Speech, through phone mik/spkr or Bluetooth headset. Hooks over Bluetooth if Mac is close, GPRS/3G connection of Mac is distant. File transfer too.

    $500.

I would looove this idea, all around. although I really feel like the best thing for a smart phone is to have a keyboard. I really really dont think a virtual keyboard will work, because you can't feel yourself press the keys, and the keyboard would take up so much of the screen that you couldn't see what your supposed to type into.

but as far as it being a camera, video camera, have a simplified OS X operating system, having perfect sync. and being able to remote desktop into your mac, that would be amazing. Also, i think they should put more 3D into the OS design, mabye designing it after the front row look. Having a mobile version of Itunes that you could browse though your collection just like the new itunes 7. different things like that.

Also, how great would it be if you could make your own ring tones with your itunes library, like, choose 10 seconds from any song and set it as a ring tone.

I have to many ideas about what I would want in a Iphone. One thing, I really dont like iPhone as a name...how about iMobile? with all the talk about having all of your music with you, your photos, your videos, games, address book, etc. it could be branded as a mobile version of having a mac...iMobile.

I just think it sounds a lot better.

A great point, it's kind of funny how consumers have let the media lead us into believing we need clouded services out of everything. I can understand streaming television and films, but what is so hard about syncing your music at home once or twice a week?

True. There are also a bunch of products that allow you to set up your own streaming services, like StreamtoMe, which even supports encrypted iTunes files now. And not just music, but video too, and best of all, you have complete control over everything. Its not for everyone, like people without the necessary hardware or great technical skills. But if set up properly, its just as good as anything Apple or Google can provide.

But MS never consistently used the term App to describe any part of their business. Sure it pops up occasionally here and there, almost at random, but that's about it. Historically they've always used 'Programs'. So to use your example, why couldn't they say: "We have this thing called Marketplace. What is it? Well, it's a place where you can buy programs.....". Why are they not happy with that? It will line up so much better with their software genealogy.

I suspect the truth of the matter is they now want to start using 'App' for everything (instead of Programs), because Apple has popularized the term. Its on everybody's tongue now. And MS wants in on it. They want their stuff to be associated with the buzz that Apple created. That's borderline parasitic to me.

Because apps and applications have been used interchangeably for over a decade. Why only allow Apple to use it?

"I'd hardly call a [url=http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/8356/95% drop in profits "doing better than ever."

Despite MP3 players that offered more, Creative was on a downward spiral. Now they become a sheep following the iPod shepherd and Apple wins the battle.

First, Creative did not have a drop of 85% in profits.

Second, Creative makes a lot more than mp3 players. They were not going anywhere with mp3 players.

3rd, they are a very durable company, have servived many ups and downs in the computer industry and are a very efficiently run company out of Singapore.
